Organisational design of emergency departments: Policy evaluation

Aim

The overall purpose of the project is to characterize the current organisation of emergency departments in Denmark and to investigate the relation between organisational design of emergency departments and quality of care, health outcomes and costs.

Methods

A national, cross-sectional survey was performed to identify implementation status and organisational designs at Danish emergency departments. To analyse the effect of emergency department reorganisation, the survey data was combined with register data and a multilevel analysis was performed. Staff perspectives on the association between effect and organisational design will be assessed in a qualitative interview-based study.
