Work Culture and Community

At RECEM, the work environment is characterized by trust, collaboration, and a high degree of autonomy, where close professional sparring with colleagues is central. Because we are a relatively small unit, you are encouraged to work on-site as much as possible. Having more people present creates a better office dynamic.

The tone at RECEM is informal and relaxed, with plenty of humor shared among both researchers and students. At the same time, we respect each other’s need for quiet work conditions. This is maintained by acknowledging and responding to a polite request from a colleague who signals that there is too much noise or conversation.

Everyday Life at RECEM

Our office environment is open, and we therefore encourage everyone to be mindful of noise levels.
We gather at 10:15 every morning for a cup of coffee.

Lunch is around 12:00. Some bring their own food, while others buy lunch at Café Nord located on Level 4, intersection 418, where you’ll find a selection of hot meals, sandwiches, and treats.
Lunch is eaten in the meeting room, the lounge, or the courtyard. The atmosphere is pleasant and open—colleagues engage with each other’s work across disciplines and projects.
We share the responsibility for tidying up after lunch, and we like to keep the kitchen clean and presentable, especially as we frequently receive visitors.

Social Club

RECEM has a Social Club that regularly hosts social events, such as Friday bars, padel tennis, summer parties, Christmas gatherings, and more.
